SKU & Barcode

How SKU and barcode fields work in Accoraze V1.

Overview

Accoraze lets you store a SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) and a barcode value on each product. These are reference identifiers — they help you organize and look up products internally.

What Is a SKU?

A SKU is a unique code you assign to each product for internal tracking. It is usually a short alphanumeric code that makes sense to your business — for example, SKU-001, TSHIRT-BLK-M, or WIDGET-500.

SKUs are optional but recommended for businesses that manage large or complex catalogs.

What Is a Barcode?

A barcode value is the number printed on a product's barcode label (e.g., from a barcode scanner or product packaging). Common formats include:

  • EAN-13 — 13-digit international article number
  • UPC — 12-digit universal product code
  • Internal formats — Any numeric or alphanumeric code your business uses

You enter the barcode value into the product field. Accoraze stores it as a reference identifier.

Barcode Scanning in V1

In V1, you can store a barcode value on products, but barcode scanning during POS transactions is not available. At the point of sale, products are searched by name or browsed from the catalog.

This means:

  • You can store barcode values on products
  • You cannot scan a barcode at POS to add items to a sale in V1
  • Advanced barcode/QR workflow features are planned for future versions

If barcode scanning is important to your workflow, contact support to discuss your requirements and timelines.

Using SKU and Barcode Fields

When creating or editing a product:

  1. Enter the SKU in the SKU field
  2. Enter the barcode value in the barcode field
  3. Save the product

Both fields are optional. Products can have a SKU without a barcode, a barcode without a SKU, both, or neither.

Common Mistakes

Confusing barcode with SKU

A barcode is the number on a product's physical label. A SKU is your internal reference code. They serve similar purposes but may be different values. You do not need both, but having both is fine.

Using the same code twice

Each product should have a unique SKU and/or barcode. Using duplicate values can cause confusion when tracking inventory.

Relying on barcode scanning for POS

In V1, you cannot search products at the POS by scanning a barcode. Make sure your staff know to search by product name instead.
